The Lausos 2008 beat over 500 wines in a blind tasting test to take the award for best ecological red wine in the highly regarded annual event. The award comes just days after the same vineyard was awarded the the Golden Leaf for its sparkling white wine Blanc de Blancs 2011 at an awards ceremony in Catalonia.
The award-winning red is limited to 15,000 bottles. “It is our top wine and we do limited production,” explains co-proprietor Stella González. “There are even years that we decided not to produce because we believe that the conditions aren’t suited to production.”
Ibiza is steadily gaining recognition as a producer of quality wine with five wineries located on the island as well as one in Formentera.
