cars portIBIZA – Councillor for Mobility suggests a limit on the amount of vehicles allowed entry into Ibiza in order to avoid over-saturation.

According to Councillor for Territory and Mobility, Pepa Marí, “we must make clear rules and limits. We must not bury our heads in the sand whatever happens, but face the problems,” suggesting Ibiza may adopt a similar system to Formentera to avoid over-saturation of vehicles on the island. The Consell de Formentera plans to introduce an entry fee for each vehicle arriving at the island and the Councillor stressed Ibiza would be “closely watching what Formentera do.”

When questioned about a potential backlash from the tourism sector, Marí was adamant that all voices would be listened to in the debate but also insisted that “we must try to put prevailing public interest above private sectors,” to reach “an agreement that benefits us all.” The Councillor also suggested that access to certain areas of the island such as popular beaches may be restricted in future.
