The manager of Ocio de Ibiza, José Luis Benítez, expressed concerns over the ongoing challenge posed by illegal parties on the island, emphasising the need for cooperation rather than political sparring. While government officials claim local authorities and the Guardia Civil work closely, Benítez highlighted the vital role of local police in tackling these unlicensed gatherings. These events not only undermine Ibiza’s reputation but also spark community tensions.
José Antonio Llano, who leads the Association of Holiday Rental Homes, clarified that these illicit parties usually occur in non-touristic properties, with minimal issues reported from legal holiday homes. Nonetheless, owners remain vigilant, as any gatherings that disrupt neighbours could lead to contractual consequences. Llano stressed that none in the association wish to be embroiled in such disputes, advocating for tighter regulations to grant local police more authority over residential checks. The challenge lies with the current legal framework that limits officers' access to dwellings, allowing these underground parties to persist unchecked.
