As another vibrant summer season nears its end, Ibiza and neighbouring Formentera prepare for the highly anticipated closing parties, events that have seamlessly integrated into the island's summer rhythm. This weekend, the area of Sant Josep will be at the heart of these celebrations, signalling the official goodbye to the island's clubbing-obsessed summer scene. Despite the buildup, local authorities, like Chief José Antonio Granados of Sant Josep's Police, describe these events as routine, comparable to any vibrant day in August. While the spectacle of these gatherings has somewhat streamlined over the years, the police force will maintain its usual heightened summer-level vigilance. This adjustment reflects how deeply embedded these closings are within the island's calendar. Reflecting on the broader summer, it's been a memorable period with familiar peaks in July and August, although the police also dealt with unique challenges such as unauthorised property occupations, adding a new layer to their responsibilities this season.
