Ibiza Airport faced disruption this Sunday due to torrential rain from storm Dana Adam. Drastic flooding rendered the runway unusable for hours and water infiltrated the terminal, affecting key areas. Check-in counters were shut as they became inundated, pushing many passengers to head straight to security. However, the situation worsened when leaks reached the security area, forcing more closures. Various parts of the terminal were cordoned off and shops such as Duty Free shut due to indoor flooding. The ramp area, where ground staff handle aircraft, faced severe deluge with videos showing torrents in the baggage section. Outside, access to parking areas was blocked by fallen structures and heavy water accumulation, leading to a road closure near Platja d'en Bossa. The chaos led to two safety closures of airport operations by Aena, with activities halted twice due to intense water clearing efforts. Official reports confirm five flight cancellations and 16 diversions from the island, including UK-based flights from Manchester and London-Stansted, as delays reached an average of 84 minutes. The storm recorded a dramatic 101.9 litres of rain per square metre at the airport, prompting a red alert across Ibiza and Formentera. The aftermath of this weather chaos continued throughout the day, impacting hundreds of planned flights.
