Ibiza is taking significant strides towards a sustainable tourism model by joining Turismo Que Suma, an initiative led by Exceltur. This collaboration aims to enhance the positive impact of tourism on the island's locals and resources. As Ibiza works on transforming its tourism approach, the focus is shifting from the sheer number of visitors to how tourism activities benefit the island's residents and its cultural and natural assets, according to Ibiza's president, Vicent Marí.
This partnership will tackle issues like balancing visitor and resident interests, preserving Ibiza's unique identity, and promoting off-season tourism to achieve a better distribution of tourist flows. The initiative will also emphasise improving the quality of tourism-related employment, advancing environmental and cultural awareness, and facilitating digital innovations.
By joining Turismo Que Suma, Ibiza aligns itself with over 80 public and private entities across Spain, fostering knowledge exchange and the development of better practices to measure tourism's impact. Vicent Marí highlights that this effort will enhance the existing work of the Consell in areas such as illegal offers combat and planning Ibiza's future as a premier destination.
