In a decisive move to combat the unlawful transport services at Ibiza's airport, authorities have stepped up their surveillance efforts, particularly during the bustling club opening weekend. This initiative, led by the Ibiza Consell in collaboration with Sant Josep's local police and AENA's security teams, resulted in a significant decline in the presence of illegal taxis this year. For the first time during a major opening season weekend, the airport saw no rogue taxis attempting to pick up passengers, marking a crucial victory against unregulated services.
Inspectors issued three fines related to improper service operations, including unauthorized private transport and vehicles illicitly soliciting passengers. These measures are part of a broader campaign initiated two years ago to ensure traveller safety, support lawful businesses, and maintain fair competition in the transport sector.
The strategy includes systematic inspections and special measures during peak times, aiming for a continued reduction in illegal activity at the airport. Last year, the campaign achieved a 95% decrease in the presence of rogue taxis, signalling an effective response to the issue. With controls set to remain stringent throughout the summer, visitors can expect enhanced oversight, particularly as flight arrivals peak at key times.
