Ibiza Cracks Down on Beach Vendors: New Fines at Ses Salines

Ibiza Cracks Down on Beach Vendors: New Fines at Ses Salines

The iconic Ses Salines beach remains a hotspot not just for sun-seekers and partygoers, but also for the bustling trade of informal vendors. Despite new regulations introduced in May by Sant Josep’s local government to curb this activity, the scene at Ses Salines remains unchanged. Vendors continue to sell everything from replica designer bags to cool drinks and World Cup memorabilia, unfazed by potential fines of up to €750 that now extend to buyers.

Early risers among the vendors can be found roaming the sands offering beach essentials like sarongs and umbrellas, while others provide massages and hair-braiding services. The ever-present allure of fresh fruit and chilled beverages keeps these sellers in high demand under the sweltering sun. Yet, the enforcement of these rules faces challenges. Only sporadic police actions have been reported, with the familiar sight of vendors plying their trade still evident to frequent visitors. These hawkers often operate under larger organized groups, cashing in on the vibrant beach atmosphere that draws UK tourists back year after year.

Teams from the Sant Antoni Beach Safety and Rescue Operations were put through their paces, working with lifeguards, boats, and the HELIMER rescue helicopter to secure and evacuate the 'victim'. The drill highlighted the importance of effective communication and coordination among various rescue services, ensuring that procedures remain robust and efficient. This kind of proactive preparation not only boosts the confidence of visitors but also underscores Ibiza's commitment to safety on its beloved shores.
