Ibiza and Formentera have concluded the summer of 2026 with the highest revenue per available room amongst Spain's top holiday destinations, despite experiencing a drop in tourist numbers. According to Exceltur's recent report, the average revenue per room (RevPAR) for these islands reached €225.1 from June to August, a 9.5% increase from the same period in 2025.
Interestingly, this rise in revenue occurred even though there was a 2.4% decrease in overall demand, with a notable 2.8% drop in foreign visitors. In contrast, the domestic market saw slight growth. This pattern signifies a shift in tourism growth across the islands, focusing more on increasing revenue through sustained high pricing and the renewal of hotel offerings, rather than just boosting visitor numbers.
Ibiza and Formentera's strategy of enhancing tourism quality over quantity is setting them apart in the competitive landscape of Spain's summer hotspots. Despite the challenges of fewer tourists, these islands excel by capitalizing on higher-value tourism, ensuring they remain a premium attraction for visitors. However, analysts caution that the future might present hurdles, with risks like rising energy costs and geopolitical uncertainties potentially affecting growth.
