Brace yourselves, Ibiza enthusiasts, for an unexpected twist in the island’s sun-filled skies. This weekend marks the arrival of a drastically different weather pattern affecting both Ibiza and Formentera. Starting Saturday, significant rainfall is on the horizon, coupled with a noteworthy drop in temperatures. Meteorology expert Romualdo Romero, affiliated with the University of the Balearic Islands, states that a sudden shift in weather conditions is absolutely on the cards for the upcoming days.
As the weekend unfolds, the situation is set to peak from Sunday through Monday, resembling classic autumnal storms, characterized by strong easterly and northeasterly winds. While it's not a Mediterranean hurricane, the heavy rain could prove disruptive. Additional challenges come from the warmer-than-usual sea temperatures, which may exacerbate adverse effects.
Romero highlights the possibility of two 'danas'—isolated high-altitude depressions—forming, which are known to trigger severe downpours. Predictions indicate these will impact the Mediterranean region, bringing moist marine air and gusty weather conditions. Although temperatures will initially remain high until Saturday, expect them to drop by 3 to 4 degrees as the storms hit, normalizing around seasonal averages by the week’s end. So, while it won't be freezing, prepare for a notable contrast from the typical balmy October mood.
