Ibiza's Public Transport Gets a Green Makeover with Electric Buses

Ibiza's Public Transport Gets a Green Makeover with Electric Buses

Ibiza is revamping its public transport with the phased introduction of 64 cutting-edge electric buses. This move is part of a broader strategy by the Consell d’Eivissa to modernize and make transport more sustainable across the island. The rollout, happening this year, will include buses fitted with luggage racks to better serve both local residents and the influx of tourists eagerly travelling to and from the airport. Recent site visits, such as the one by President Vicent Marí to ALSA's depot in Cala de Bou, highlight the technical upgrades in infrastructure to support this eco-friendly shift. This initiative aligns with Ibiza's commitment to reducing emissions and enhancing mobility for everyone on the island.

Wind and Rain Expected as Ibiza Weather Turns Unpredictable

UK clubbing travellers headed to Ibiza this weekend should brace themselves for possibly dramatic weather shifts. The predicted yellow weather alert from AEMET, Spain's meteorological agency, warns of fierce winds with speeds peaking at 50 km/h or more along the island's coastlines, particularly in Santa Eulària des Riu, where downpours are likely between 3 and 5 PM. Despite these conditions, the anticipated high will still hit a sultry 33°C, making for steamy nights across the Pitiusas. As the weekend progresses, Saturday retains the gusty theme but with less rain, peaking early before giving way to a cloudy yet settled evening. Sunday maintains this pattern, with sporadic light rain possible, ensuring sunshine interspersed with cloud cover—perfect conditions for a laid-back beach day. While exact forecasts remain fluid, keeping updated on weather alerts is essential to ensure a seamless and enjoyable Ibiza experience.

Ibiza Witnesses a Dramatic Drop in Vehicle Landings as Public Transport Use Soars

In the latest bid to ease Ibiza's bustling summer streets, vehicle arrivals on the island via maritime routes have plummeted by a spectacular 13.7% over the past two years. The reduction follows new regulations aimed at limiting vehicular traffic on the island. From May to July this year, the Port of Ibiza recorded 129,434 vehicle movements, a stark decrease from 149,966 during the same stretch in 2024. This sharp decline aligns with a booming increase in public transport usage, as the bus network counted 699,591 more passengers this year—a notable 22.7% surge compared to last year. Mobility official Mariano Juan highlights that these figures reflect the successful implementation of the strategy to lower vehicle pressure while boosting public transit. Meanwhile, the vehicle quota (reduced from 4,000 to 3,500) hasn't reached capacity this year, a shift from August 2025 when it maxed out for 25 days. The ongoing season will be key to determining if this trend endures.
