Brits planning to bask on the beaches of Ibiza may want to rethink their schedules as temperatures soar on the island. This past Sunday was marked by blistering heat, with the thermal sensation peaking at an astonishing 49 degrees in Sant Joan de Labritja, making it the hottest spot in the Balearics! Other popular destinations suffered similarly sweltering conditions, with Sant Antoni feeling like 44 degrees, Santa Eulària des Riu at 42, and Eivissa not far behind at 38 degrees. Even the often cooler Formentera recorded a steamy 34 degrees. Despite actual temperatures staying slightly lower, the stifling humidity means it felt much hotter—posing a challenge for those venturing outdoors. To stay safe, Aemet advises minimising sun exposure during peak hours, keeping hydrated, and limiting strenuous activity, especially for the elderly, young, and those with chronic conditions.

Amidst these figures, Maria Costa, president of the hotel association, remained optimistic, highlighting the negligible nature of such variations given the overall high occupancy rates. However, Formentera’s hotel sector shows concern following the August dip and is calling for careful evaluation, suggesting that factors such as vehicle limits and restricted beach services may have played a part. The focus remains on balancing sustainable tourism with maintaining the islands’ allure for visitors.
