The Sant Antoni de Portmany Town Hall has launched the lifesaving, lifeguard, and accessibility services across all municipal beaches starting Tuesday. This initiative targets the safety of both residents and tourists, ensuring compliance with current regulations. The coverage period, extended for the past two seasons, now begins on April 15 and lasts until October 31, marking an earlier start compared to previous May 1 commencements. This expanded timeframe offers a broader service than in past years. Environment and Beach Cleaning Councillor, Pepita Torres, emphasized the critical role of these services in maintaining secure and high-quality beaches. This year introduces extended hours at Caló des Moro to accommodate early morning beachgoers and senior aquatic fitness classes from July through August. The vigilant team consists of 17 professionals, including boat operators and a district supervisor, with services across Es Pouet, s’Arenal, Caló des Moro, Cala Gració, Cala Gracioneta, Cala Salada, and Cala Saladeta. The setup includes seven watchtowers, a rescue post on s’Arenal, and a patrolling rescue vessel. Service hours adjust seasonally, with specific timings for low, medium, and high tourist periods. Notably, during peak season, assisted bathing services for those with disabilities and shaded adapted areas are available. It's worth mentioning that the 2024 lifeguard contract with Marsave Mallorca S.L. spans four years, featuring an annual budget of €789,980.65, a 74% increase from prior agreements.
