A thrilling spectacle is unfolding at the entrance of Ibiza's bustling port as a daring salvage operation kicks off to rescue a yacht ravaged by flames. This Thursday, a team hired by the yacht owner's insurer is set to embark on the challenging task of refloating the vessel, as confirmed by Toni Ginard, the director of the Balearic Port Authority. Using an intricate system of balloons, the team aims to hoist the fire-damaged yacht from the water, after successfully extracting a whopping 900 litres of fuel earlier this week. However, Ginard has cautioned that the yacht's extensive damage might hinder the full recovery in a single swoop. Once the remains are retrieved, they will be transported to es Botafoc and then onto dry land by Saturday for a thorough waste separation and treatment process. The dramatic blaze erupted last Friday evening, sending a towering plume of black smoke into the sky. Quick-thinking port police and practical experts rushed to the scene, swiftly evacuating six people from the yacht before the fire's fury took hold. As the flames raged, the port authority took charge, deploying emergency protocols to safeguard both people and the surrounding marine environment, ensuring minimal ecological impact. This high-stakes operation is not only a testament to the island's robust emergency response but also a gripping reminder of the unexpected thrills that Ibiza's shores can serve up.
