In July alone, Ibiza and its neighbouring island Formentera saw an impressive 1,830 kilos of debris cleared from their pristine waters and shores, according to the Balearic Islands government's coastal cleanup initiative. Ibiza accounted for 1,442 kilos of this maritime rubbish, while Formentera added another 388 kilos to the tally. With the aid of 23 vessels dedicated to maintaining the region's natural beauty, this operation underscores the islands' dedication to preserving their allure for the British tourists who flock here each season. Predominantly, plastics dominated the waste collected, amounting to nearly half of the total debris. The initiative not only removed physical debris like large buoys and wooden pallets but also monitored marine wildlife, noting a slight uptick in jellyfish appearances.
