The International Music Summit (IMS) Ibiza 2026 kicked off with eye-opening insights from the IMS Electronic Music Business Report 2025/26, presented by Mark Mulligan of MIDiA Research. Despite a decrease in the total number of events, Ibiza has seen a notable increase in club ticket revenue, hitting an impressive 160 million euros in 2025. This shift highlights a structural change in nightlife culture, where attendees prioritise quality over quantity, opting for fewer but more extravagant nights out.
Mulligan explains that club-goers are saving up to invest in exceptional and exclusive experiences, leading to a rise in high-value, large-format events with VIP offerings. The dancefloor today is more focused on exclusivity, artist proximity, and unique experiences, driving a demand for premium events.
Yet, this evolving landscape poses challenges. Rising costs and reduced event frequency could limit accessibility for younger audiences vital for scene renewal. Mulligan warns of potential issues if younger patrons are not actively engaged with these upscale experiences. Still, Ibiza remains a global trendsetter for electronic music, as the broader market grows to $15.1 billion, showcasing a move towards selective, high-value consumption.
