The Ibiza airport buzzed with activity early this morning, with 33 flights touching down just after 10 AM. As July kicks off, the summer tourism season is in full swing, drawing a multitude of travellers to the island. Planes arriving from UK hubs like Cardiff, Liverpool, Nottingham, Belfast, and London, alongside other European cities, marked the start of this lively period.
With the influx of passengers, queues at taxi ranks and public transport stops have already become a familiar sight. Visitors are looking forward to a range of experiences, from fully relaxing beach escapes to the electrifying beats of Ibiza's iconic clubs.
This year, tourists like Marc and Nick, who are spending four days immersing themselves in the island's famous nightlife, mention spending around 150 euros per person daily, excluding accommodation costs. Meanwhile, shop owners in Ibiza's port area, such as Carolina Bonet of Casa Afro jewellery, report a positive impact from the cruise ships delivering a steady flow of customers to their businesses.
Despite the vibrant scene and quality clientele, some visitors, like Carmen and Virtu, have faced challenges with limited transport options around the island, highlighting an area for improvement in the smooth movements of tourists. Nevertheless, the season is off to a promising start for both visitors and local businesses.
