Sant Antoni's local council has kick-started the return of oceanic posidonia to Caló des Moro beach, a crucial move happening after the summer tourist season comes to a close. This sustainable effort, also targeting Es Pouet beach, aims to restore natural coastal protection. Posidonia, a key marine plant, forms natural barriers that prevent erosion and coastline retreat by holding sediments in place.
The initiative follows strict municipal protocols, ensuring beach maintenance aligns with ecosystem conservation. Removed in May before peak tourist influx, posidonia is stored at Can Coix before its autumn return. In 2025, 72 cubic metres were cleared. Forecasts for 2026 estimate 9.5 tonnes will be managed, with approximately 4.5 tonnes already restored to the beaches.
These beaches were specifically chosen due to their vulnerability to erosion and recent seasonal storms. The project is part of ongoing commitments to sustainable coastal management, aligning with environmental certifications ISO 14001 and EMAS, bolstering the protection of Ibiza's treasured beaches against natural forces."}
