This weekend, Ibiza's renowned port was the scene of an unfortunate environmental incident. Locals reported a strong smell and considerable rubbish floating in the water on Saturday, when a sewage spill occurred due to heavy rainfall. The incident was in a highly frequented part of the island, drawing attention from residents and visitors alike. According to the Balearic Port Authority (APB), this triggered the activation of the POLREP security plan, a protocol for marine pollution events. Thankfully, the situation was resolved by Sunday. Although the spill involved dissolvable sewage, leading to an informational-only response, it highlights an ongoing awareness of environmental challenges in Ibiza's treasured spots.
